MC10, out of Lexington, Massachusetts, landed FDA clearance for its new BioStamp nPoint biometric data acquisition system. Based on the BioStampRC, it is stuck to the patient’s body and can then continuously record parameters such as the heart rate, step count, and movements during sleep.

It’s intended for monitoring of patients, but also for clinical studies that need to keep a close eye on patient vitals.

The system comes with a smartphone for the patient that has a matching app to guide users on how to apply the sensor, do specific routines, and anything else related to their particular study or health situation. On the clinicians’ side there’s a tablet with its own app that helps to manage multiple patients and to program and control the sensors.

Speaking of sensors, those are placed into a cradle between uses to recharge them and to simultaneously upload their recordings to MC10’s cloud. The data can be reviewed in a variety of ways and the raw numbers can be looked at closely using any preferred method.
